DAVID R. MACLEAN

ARCHITECT

David R. MacLean is the founder of David R. MacLean & Associates, Architects & Planners.  As a registered architect in Massachusetts and Missouri. The firm has designed over 350 projects including new residences, additions & alterations to existing buildings, offices, warehouses, condominiums, institutional facilities, and retail/commercial centers.  Mr. MacLean’s professional background includes working for Sert, Jackson & Associates and Benjamin Thompson & Associates of Cambridge, MA and Grattan Gill, Architect of Sandwich, MA. He worked on teams which were responsible for several Urban Development Housing Projects in New York, various Intercontinental Hotels in the Middle East, the development of Fanueil Hall Marketplace in Boston and the recently completed Mary McCarthy Hospice Residence in East Sandwich, MA which was featured in the February 2003 issue of The Boston Globe Magazine.

Mr. MacLean received his professional training at the Boston Architectural Center, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and winning the Peter Woytuk Award for Architectural Design in 1977 and the Boston Architectural Center Scholastic Award in 1973.  He also studied sculpture, architectural design and art history at the Massachusetts College of Art.  His work has been exhibited at the Boston Architectural Center and he has collaborated with Mary Otis Stevens, AIA, on her research on vernacular traditions in American Architecture for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Mr. MacLean has served on the faculty of Roger Williams University School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation in Bristol, RI as a design studio professor from 1984 to 2011 and at St. Louis Community Collage at Meramec from 1993 to 1995.   He has been a guest critic at the Washington-Alexandria Center of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in Blacksburg, VA, Washington University School of Architecture in St. Louis, MO, Boston University, the Boston Architectural Center and other local schools in the area.  He was instrumental in the organization and implementation of the Bridge / Park International Design Competition for the revitalization of downtown Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod from 2003 - 2008.

DAVID E. FREDRICKS

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Mr. Fredricks has been a designer with David R. MacLean & Associates since 2001.  Before joining the firm he was head draftsman of Doucet Surveying in Newmarket, New Hampshire.  He was awarded two first place plans at the 1999 New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association plan contest.  In addition to architecture Mr. Fredricks is an active artist working in many mediums such as painting, sculpture, drawing and photography.  He has worked on many independent projects ranging from master planning to luxury real estate development.  He has been a guest critic at Roger Williams University School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation in Bristol, RI from 2005 to the present.
