“SUGARVIEW” is a southerly facing property in the Mad River Valley of Vermont with commanding views of the Sugarbush ski resort.   

   The open plan of the main residence faces south and west, maintaining transparency and free movement onto a large cantilevered deck that floats above the landscape. The easterly component incorporates the private living spaces which are linked to the public component featuring a spacious foyer and naturally illuminated atrium-like circulation spine which opens into the dining and living areas to either side of the centrally located kitchen. The Owners’ private quarters are on the second floor including the Study which is accessed via a glass bridge from the Master Bedroom. The lower level is accessed by descending below the floating stair, symbolizing a cave-like entrance cut into the sedimentary rock of the mountain.

   We and the clients worked together over many years developing the Master Plan, including the Main House, Carriage House, Tractor Shed and Pump House.
