Family Room Design

Bourne, MA

The proposed addition was designed to provide a spacious, light and airy gathering space that sits calmly in the rear yard overlooking the gardens and tennis court. The existing gambrel house was originally built as a two-family home, split right down the middle. Our clients opened up the walls between the apartments to make one larger residence. Although spaces have been enlarged there was no family room that could house the growing family. In addition the existing building seemed to be introverted and did not make any gesture to embrace the private rear yard and gardens. The “star” addition is like a jewel that has opened up the rear of the original house and graciously opens up to the gardens and sky.
