SORRENTO ON AMRITA ISLAND

CATAUMET,  MA

This historic 1900 Shingle Style residence on Amrita Island sits high above  Squeteague Harbor in Cataumet.  What was once a dark, introverted house has been opened up, allowing light to filter in, taking full advantage of its magnificent site.  The renovation respects the original fabric while sensitively incorporating contemporary architectural additions and alterations. Interior spaces gently flow onto the deck which surrounds the house, cantilevering over the hillside, allowing for a seamless transition from inside to outside. The building now flows comfortably within and now reaches out to embrace its prominence on the island. The kitchen and dining area opens up to a new screened porch, nestled among the trees on the easterly side of the property. The second floor houses the Master Suite, a study and three additional bedrooms.  The third floor has an observatory/ sitting room and three more bedrooms.  A ship’s ladder leads to a skylit hatch that opens to an octagonal widow’s walk.
