Oceanfront

Cataumet,  MA

This 1940’s Cape rests upon a knoll looking west over Squeteague Harbor in Cataumet on Cape Cod. Our clients wanted to completely renovate and add to the structure to take full advantage of the idyllic view and private site. The building was gutted while retaining significant architectural elements for reuse. An entry vestibule was added which opens onto a two-story space bringing light in through venting skylights on the roof above. Visual transparency through the building has been developed. An office / study was added on the south side similar to the existing elevation on the north side which houses the game room. The kitchen, dining and living rooms all face the water and open to a generous covered porch with a roof deck above accessed from the second floor bedrooms. Sailors in the harbor can now look back on a contextural renovation that opens up to the beach, harbor and island beyond. Reading a book, sitting in a rocker on the porch overlooking the activity on the water is picture perfect summer living.
