Restoration

Onset,  MA

The Swift Homestead in Onset is one of the oldest surviving properties in the town dating back to the late 18th century.  Our clients made a decision to restore the original 300-year old three-quarter Cape and demolish the two existing additions which were collapsing. The Main House was completely restored which included rebuilding the rubble stone foundation, replacing all rotten framing and rebuilding the original fireplace hearth and beehive oven in the dining room. The roof structure was straightened and strengthened and two additions were seamlessly connected to the original structure: one which houses the kitchen / breakfast room and the other which serves as an open family room with a secondary fireplace. The entire parcel has been landscaped in accordance with the design by Abrahamson and Associates, Landscpae Architects. Prior to breaking ground on the historic structure we simultaneously designed and built a new boathouse at the perimeter of the property to complete the master plan.
