SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE

CAPE COD,  MA

Sitting atop a steep bluff, this totally redesigned house opens onto a wide southerly expanse of Buzzards Bay. The footprint is long and narrow like a railroad car, resembling “a boat on land, with everything boat-like in scale”.  All public spaces face the view.  Circulation is interrupted with sitting areas and window bays that allow for natural cross ventilation throughout the entire building.  Living and dining spaces are spacious and adjacent to a new state-of-the-art kitchen with floor to ceiling glazing that provides a vast ocean view.  The bedrooms and their adjacent balconies have the feel and scale of those on a cruise ship, giving the building its cruise ship perspective from the sea.

Just outside is a swimming pool set within an intimate courtyard. A glass parapet protects the area from the brisk ocean winds yet still allows for a full ocean view. Beyond the pool, a series of decks leads to an ipe staircase with stainless railings which open onto the private beach at the base of the property.
