Renovation
South Shore
1/1
The design problem presented in this residence was to completely transform an unattractive, unembellished box on a priceless waterfront peninsula with 360° views. Due to its close proximity to the water’s edge and obstructed views on the lower level, the new residence takes on boat-like characteristics with an “upside-down” programmatic arrangement similar to a ship, while maintaining its architectural compatibility to the region. The extensive redesign retains the majority of the existing structure while creatively integrating new glazing, exterior rooms, decks, additions, as well as an observatory to take full advantage of the views to the harbor, salt marsh and Cape Cod Bay.
